RCHC Training - Respect, Invitation & Caring: Cultural Competence in Practice

December 14, 2010 by Anna Stout

The Regional Center hosts a brown bag lunch this Friday, December 17th as part of our center's training calendar.

Let's take a break from the terms cultural competency, cultural awareness and cultural humility and have an honest conversation about what happens each day in our work and what we can do to make every person feel human, cared for, welcomed and respected. We will use lay language to think together about ways to make our agencies, programs and offices safe, welcoming and healthy. Join us for this brown bag conversation where we'll explore challenges and identify opportunities together.

You will leave this training with tips and tricks to make your own meetings and programs more inclusive, as well as strategies you can incorporate in your own work or your own organization to move your own cultural humility efforts forward.

Please bring your own lunch, the Regional Center will provide tea and snacks.

**Register by emailing rchctrainings@healthier-communities.org your name, organization and contact details or by calling 617.441.0700 and asking to register for the Cultural Competency training.**

Creative Ways to Present Data

May 5, 2010 by Sarah Stewart

Yesterday, we hosted a workshop called "Creative Ways to Present Data".  The workshop began with a presentation by Dr. K. 'Vish' Viswanath from the Harvard School of Public Health about effective communication of risk and science.  In the second part of the workshop, we focused on the process of how to choose the best method of presenting data. I had the pleasure of facilitating the second part of the workshop with Rahul Bhargava, a consultant who has lots of experience developing creative data visualizations.  We were very lucky to have both Dr. Vish and Rahul present!

If you missed the workshop but are interested in seeing the materials, we've made them available in our training archive.  Click here to download the materials (you'll have to scroll to the bottom of the page).

to replace reactivity with response. We will also practice centered communication by staying relaxed and focused on what we really

relationships.

• New capacity to handle what comes with objectivity and curiosity
• Enhanced self-awareness and emotion management
• Skills to communicate clearly and effectively

Judy Ringer is the author of Unlikely Teachers: Finding the Hidden Gifts in Daily Conflict.  She provides conflict and communication training throughout North America with unique workshops based on mind/body principles from the martial art aikido, in which she holds a black belt. Employing best practice communication models, Judy brings to life key concepts such as self-management under pressure and appreciation of other viewpoints. Her programs are interactive, experiential and energetic. She has written articles on the relevance and application of the aikido metaphor for  Aikido Today Magazine and The Systems Thinker and is the author of the award-winning e-newsletter, Ki Moments.
