The Regional Center for Healthy Communities (Metrowest) is a program of Mount Auburn Hospital that provides facilitative and technical assistance to communities to reduce underage drinking, prevent the harms from other drug use, and help them realize their vision for a healthier place to live. The Center promotes partnerships among regional and local public health leaders and collaborates with communities to mobilize youth and young adults for leadership and civic action. Job Description and Qualifications:

Summary: The Director manages all the operational and programmatic activities of the Metrowest Regional Center for Healthy Communities (RCHC), including operations, successful development and implementation of the work plan, identification and pursuit of funding opportunities, program development, and supervision and professional development of staff. The Director also provides technical assistance and training to community groups, develops positive and lasting community relationships, and provides leadership in the public health sector.

responsibilities:
  1. Oversees the activities of the Regional Center for Healthy Communities (Metrowest) in the provision of technical assistance to communities to prevent substance abuse, reduce opioid overdoses and realize their vision for a healthier place to live.
  2. Provides fiscal and administrative management for all Center activities including technical assistance services, resource library operations and regional training programs.
  3. Responsible for negotiation and contract management, fiscal record keeping, contract billing and MIS data collection in accordance with Mount Auburn Hospital and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health procedures and other relevant funders.
  4. Supervises RCHC staff and supports them in the development of their professional skills to enhance the quality of services provided by the Center.
  5. Develops program budgets, monitors program expenditure and makes determination on budget amendments as required.
  6. Identifies recruits and manages contractors when additional services are needed to meet the Center’s requirements and contractual responsibilities.
  7. Identifies funding opportunities and writes and/or supervises grant writing for programs consistent with the RCHC mission.
  8. Provides technical assistance, consultation, and training to support emerging and existing community groups, organizations, Community Health Network Areas (CHNA), coalitions, agencies, schools, boards of health, and other service providers developing community prevention programming and health improvement projects.
  9. Identifies opportunities for collaboration among programs and develops strategies for the success and sustainability of those collaborations.
  10. Keeps current with trends in community health, substance abuse prevention and related fields.
  11. Creates strong, constructive partnerships and skillfully organizes and works with diverse community coalitions and other groups.
  12. Employs participatory strategies for assessing community and regional need.
  13. Supplies relevant information from the Center’s activities for Mount Auburn Hospital's Community Benefits reporting.
  14. Forms and maintains strong working relationships with fellow co-workers, community partners, other RCHC System staff, and funding agency representatives.
  15. Advises senior leadership at Mount Auburn Hospital of opportunities relevant to community health.
  16. Participates in meetings as required (including but not limited to staff meetings, professional development sessions, committees of the Department of Public Health, Mount Auburn Hospital and other relevant organizations).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required:
  • Demonstrated experience in program management and supervision
  • Experience in fiscal management of programs and contract negotiation and monitoring
  • Solid knowledge of substance abuse prevention and community organizing a must.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in facilitating group decision making
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to collaborate with diverse communities focused on substance abuse prevention and community organizing
  • Demonstrated experience in building the capacity of coalitions for health promotion
  • Degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Community Development, Education or related disciplines required, Masters degree highly desirable
  • Bilingual/bicultural with experience working with high-risk populations highly desirable
  • Experience and knowledge of prevention theory/health promotion, youth development, coalition building, healthy communities framework and community engagement
  • Travel within Metrowest region required. Travel beyond the region for statewide meetings also required from time to time
